Stephen Lee was awarded a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the National Council for the Training of Broadcast Journalists (NCTBJ) in 1992. He studied at Highbury College in Portsmouth.
He started his media career in 1992 at radio station BBC Radio Norfolk as a radio reporter and progressed to radio newsreader and radio presenter. He presented the two hour, all speech breakfast programme "Today in Norfolk" and the drivetime show "Norfolk Tonight" as well as a weekend entertainment show called "Saturday Stretch". Stephen established the station on the internet, the first BBC local radio station to go online. He also reported for the national BBC radio networks, Radio Four and Five Live.
In this period, Stephen was selected by Cellnet to become the voice of its national mobile phone network. He recorded a series of announcements for callers.
He then worked briefly for the BBC's regional news programme "Look East" as a Regional Journalist before moving to the BBC's bi-media base in Cambridge where he worked in both radio and television. He presented and produced the Breakfast Show and also the Drivetime Show, and presented the evening regional radio news bulletins broadcast across the east of England.
In 1998 he joined ITV and started work as a newsroom journalist at Anglia Television, joining the on-screen team after six months. After eight years producing and presenting the GMTV bulletins, in late 2006 he joined Clare Weller full-time as co-anchor of the half hour regional news programme Anglia Tonight at 6pm weekdays on ITV1. He also reported live on the national 24 hour ITV News Channel. Stephen is a skilled self editor and launched audio and video podcasting for ITV regional news. As a producer, he also was responsible for the scripting and live broadcast of ITV's news output and was the final checkpoint before the news went to air.
Stephen was nominated as Journalist of the Year in the 2006 Creative East Awards. In February 2007, Stephen took part in a televised ice skating challenge, learning a routine from scratch in five weeks. His progress and final performance were shown in a series on Anglia Tonight.
He has interviewed all kinds of people from general members of the public to newsmakers, experts, academics, celebrities, pop stars and Government ministers. Acting as an ambassador for ITV at receptions and events, most notably Stephen was invited to Number 10 Downing Street in October 1997 for a reception attended by the Prime Minister.
In November 2008, Stephen left ITV Anglia to work at GMTV in London, ITV's national breakfast programme, where he interviewed big names on the red carpet such as Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.
In March 2009 he emigrated to Sydney via a two month round the world trip and started work at Sky News Australia, producing 24 hour news bulletins broadcast across the whole of the country. He had responsibility for the channel's live output from the production studio, producing the line-up and overseeing transmission from the studio.
Not long after joining Sky, Stephen accepted an offer to join Ten News in Sydney and is now working as Lead Producer for its national morning news broadcast, Ten Early News.
Stephen is skilled in the use of Avid Newscutter, Avid iNews, ENPS, QCut and MAM, regularly editing pictures and VTRs for broadcast. He also does voiceover work and has presented awards ceremonies, hosted conferences, appeared at public events and given speeches on his work.
